Signs Your Viking Welding & Fabrication Is Failing
- The gate sags three inches at the latch end and scrapes the driveway. That’s a cracked weld at the top hinge gusset or a post that’s starting to lean. The weld lets go first, then gravity does the rest.
- The gate shudders when the opener starts and stops. Loose hinge welds allow play that the motor amplifies. Ignore it long enough and the opener’s limit switch eats itself compensating.
- You can see daylight through a weld joint or paint flaking in a straight line along a seam. Paint doesn’t crack in a line unless the steel under it is flexing. That line is the failure point.
- The post moves when you push on it. In Mesquite’s clay soil, a post that wasn’t set deep enough or welded with enough reinforcement will work itself loose over two or three wet winters. The post is now load-bearing in a way it wasn’t designed to be.

You can safely check your Viking gate by pushing firmly on the gate post and looking for movement, running a finger along welds for cracks, and photographing any rust bloom on the steel. What you shouldn’t do is try to grind out and re-weld a structural joint yourself. Gate welds are under constant tension and compression; a bad weld on a hinge tab can fail without warning and drop a 300-pound gate on whatever’s under it.
