Ghost Controls Welding & Fabrication: The Mesquite Owner’s Guide

We stock, weld, and install Ghost Controls-compatible gate hardware in Mesquite, with most fabrication repairs running between $180 and $460 installed depending on the part and how much fabrication the bracket or hinge needs. Same-day service is common when we have the part on the truck, which covers most Ghost Controls hinge brackets, weld plates, and post mounts. The way most Mesquite owners discover this problem: the gate starts sagging on one corner, then drags against the driveway or refuses to close fully because a welded bracket has cracked or torn loose from the post.

Ghost Controls builds their opener kits around bolt-together brackets, but the weld points on the gate frame and post plates take real abuse. Texas heat, clay soil movement, and the weight of a 14- to 18-foot driveway gate all work against that metal. When the weld fails, the motor usually keeps working fine, which is why this repair gets misdiagnosed as an opener problem so often.

We’re an independent service provider, not affiliated with Ghost Controls. That matters because we’re not steering you toward a full kit replacement when a $200 fabrication fix solves the problem.

Which Ghost Controls Models This Applies To

Ghost Controls sells three main residential opener lines: the AXS series (single and dual swing gate), the TSS series (solar-ready swing), and the SLS series (slide gate). The welding and fabrication work we do breaks into three categories that apply across all of them.

Post mounting plates. Ghost Controls ships a flat steel plate with pre-drilled holes. The plate gets bolted or welded to a steel post. On weld-in installs, we see the plate tear away from the post when the post rusts from the inside or the gate gets caught by Mesquite’s spring winds and torques the weld.

Gate-side brackets. The arm brackets that connect the Ghost Controls actuator to the gate leaf are cast or stamped depending on the model year. Older kits used thinner stampings. We keep the current aftermarket equivalents in the truck, and they’re typically heavier than the original Ghost Controls stampings.

Custom hinge and frame repairs. When the gate leaf itself has a cracked weld at a hinge or a sagging frame rail, the fix is fabrication, not parts swapping. We cut, square, and re-weld on site in Mesquite.

To identify your part before calling, check the label on the opener arm itself. Ghost Controls prints the series code there. For the bracket, measure the bolt spacing center to center. That measurement narrows down the exact replacement faster than a model number, because Ghost Controls has changed bracket hole patterns between production years on the same series.

On OEM versus aftermarket: Ghost Controls brackets are fine, but the aftermarket equivalents we stock are often thicker steel and come with better powder coat. In Mesquite’s humidity swings we prefer the heavier aftermarket piece for anything load-bearing. For precision parts like the clevis pins and release locks, we stay OEM.

Signs Your Ghost Controls Welding & Fabrication Is Failing

Signs Your Ghost Controls Welding & Fabrication Is Failing
  • The gate sags visibly at the hinge corner. A failed weld at a hinge or frame joint lets the leaf drop. You’ll see the latch side scrape the driveway or a gap open up at the top hinge. The underlying cause is almost always a cracked weld or a hinge plate pulling free from the post.
  • The opener arm clunks or pops when the gate moves. That’s the actuator fighting a bracket that’s loose or a weld that’s flexing. Ghost Controls operators are quiet when the hardware is solid. A clunk means metal is moving where it shouldn’t.
  • You can see daylight between the post plate and the post. Walk out and look. If the Ghost Controls mounting plate has pulled even an eighth of an inch off the post, the weld is failing. It won’t heal itself, and the next windstorm finishes the job.
  • The gate jerks or shudders mid-travel. That’s not the motor. That’s a hinge binding because a weld has shifted the geometry. The Ghost Controls board is trying to push through mechanical resistance.
  • Rust streaks or orange powder at weld points. This is the earliest warning sign and the easiest to ignore. In Mesquite clay-heavy soil, moisture wicks up steel posts and rusts welds from the inside. By the time you see cracking, the inside of that weld is already spent.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

In Mesquite, a straightforward post-plate replacement or gate-bracket swap on a Ghost Controls system lands between $180 and $230 installed, including the part. A cracked hinge re-weld or gate frame repair runs $260 to $460 depending on how much grinding, square-up, and re-welding the frame needs. Custom fabrication like a new hinge leaf or an extension plate for a masonry column starts at $300 and gets quoted in writing before any work starts.

What moves the price within those ranges: how much grinding we need to do to get clean metal, whether the post is thick enough to weld again or needs a reinforcing sleeve, and whether we’re working on a swing or slide gate. Slide gates add track alignment to the job, which is why their fabrication repairs trend higher.

Every quote in Mesquite is written before we start, and the number we hand you is the number on the invoice. That’s Haven Standard Clause 1, and we don’t work any other way. The work carries our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if the weld or bracket fails within a year, we make it right at no charge.

You can safely inspect the job yourself. Look at every weld point, check for rust streaks and daylight gaps, and take photos. That documentation helps, and it matches what our techs photograph on every visit anyway.

What you shouldn’t do is attempt a weld repair with a cheap flux-core welder on structural brackets. Gate hardware carries the full weight of a moving gate that outweighs a refrigerator, and a bad weld on a Hinge side or post plate can let a gate fall on a car, a child, or you. Same for grinding and re-welding gate frames: the geometry has to be held square while the weld cools or you’ve traded one problem for another.

Additionally, the Ghost Controls actuator runs on 12V DC, and the bracket tension affects limit-switch settings. If you re-weld a bracket even a half-inch out of position, the operator’s travel limits won’t be right. We set the welds, then we re-set the limits and photograph the final settings. That’s the difference between a repair and a guess.
