DoorKing Welding & Fabrication: The Mesquite Owner’s Guide

We stock and install DoorKing-compatible welded gate components in Mesquite, with most fabrication repairs running between $225 and $650 installed depending on what actually broke and whether the gate needs to come off its hinges. We keep common DoorKing hinge plates, gate frame brackets, and weld-on tab kits on the truck, so a bent or cracked section on a 6000-series or 9000-series swing gate can usually be assessed and welded the same day the call comes in. The way most homeowners find us is simple: the gate starts dragging, then binding, then one day it won’t close all the way and there’s a crack running through the frame where the opener arm attaches.

DoorKing builds reliable operators, but their residential and light-commercial gates live outdoors in North Texas. The welded joints where the opener bracket mounts to the gate frame take the full force of every open and close cycle, and Mesquite’s clay soil shifts enough through wet-dry seasons that a gate post moves a quarter inch and suddenly that weld is doing work it was never designed to do. That’s the failure we see most often on the east side of town.

Which DoorKing Models This Applies To

Welding and fabrication work on DoorKing gates in Mesquite falls into three buckets depending on the operator you have. The DoorKing 6002, 6003, and 6004 swing gate operators use a crank-arm or link-arm assembly that bolts to a welded bracket on the gate frame. The DoorKing 9050, 9100, and 9150 slide gate operators pull a chain along the top or bottom rail, and the chain brackets, guide rollers, and end stops are all welded or bolted to steel that eventually fatigue-cracks. The DoorKing 1601 and 1602 barrier gate operators need less fabrication, but the mounting plate still takes abuse when a car clips the arm.

Before we quote any fabrication, we match the bracket, hinge plate, or frame section to your specific model and measure the gate itself. DoorKing’s mounting geometry differs between the 6002 and the 6004, and a bracket built for one won’t sit flush on the other without grinding and re-welding. On the OEM question: for mounting brackets and hinge plates, we prefer genuine DoorKing or a known equivalent because the hole spacing and plate thickness are matched to the operator’s torque output. For non-structural work like fence picket replacement or a gate stiffener, a quality aftermarket steel section works fine and saves money. We’ll tell you which is which on the written quote.

One compatibility gotcha to know: DoorKing changed the hinge plate bolt pattern on some 6000-series units after 2018, so if your operator was installed before that, don’t order a bracket online based on model number alone. We measure the plate on-site before any welding starts.

Signs Your DoorKing Welding & Fabrication Is Failing

Signs Your DoorKing Welding & Fabrication Is Failing
  • Visible crack at the opener bracket or hinge plate. This is the big one. The steel around the weld shows a hairline crack that widens when the gate moves. The cause is almost always metal fatigue from years of torque cycling, and it will not heal itself. Every cycle widens it.
  • Gate sags at the latch end and scrapes the driveway. The hinge side of the frame has started to separate at a weld, or the post itself has shifted. The opener keeps working, so the sag gets ignored until the gate gouges concrete.
  • Opener arm or chain bracket feels loose when you wiggle it by hand. If the bracket moves even an eighth of an inch against the gate frame, the weld has begun to fail underneath it. Tightening bolts won’t help because the steel itself is compromised.
  • Loud popping or creaking sound from the gate frame during operation. The welded joint is flexing under load, not rotating cleanly. That sound is the steel telling you the crack is spreading.
  • Gate stops mid-travel or reverses unexpectedly when nothing is in the way. A warped frame section caused by a failing weld puts uneven resistance on the operator, and the DoorKing’s built-in obstruction detection trips because of it. The operator isn’t broken; the structure under it is.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

In Mesquite, typical installed pricing for DoorKing-related welding and fabrication work falls into these ranges:

  • Weld-on opener bracket repair (no gate removal): $225-$375. We grind out the failed weld, reinforce the plate, and weld it back, then photograph the finished joint.
  • Hinge plate or hinge replacement with gate removed: $350-$550. Includes unbolting the gate, supporting it, cutting out the old plate, welding the new plate, and re-hanging with alignment.
  • Gate frame crack repair with steel reinforcement gusset: $275-$475. We weld a gusset plate across the crack after grinding it back to clean steel, then paint the repair.
  • Full gate section rebuild (badly rusted or impact-damaged frame): $500-$850+. New steel section fabricated to match, welded in place, and aligned.

The final number depends on whether the gate has to come off its hinges, how much grinding is needed to reach clean steel, and whether the post itself needs attention. What doesn’t change is the process: you get a written price before any welding starts, and the number on that paper is the number you pay. We don’t do open-ended hourly welding. The 365-Day Done Right Promise covers every fabrication job we complete, which means if that weld fails within a year of normal use, we come back and fix it at no charge.

DIY or Call Us?

Welding on a gate that’s connected to a live DoorKing operator is not a weekend project. We say that plainly because we’ve seen what happens when a homeowner welds on a bracket without disconnecting power: the heat and stray current can fry the control board, and a gate under spring or operator load can move unexpectedly while you’re under it. Welding also produces sparks that ignite dry grass and debris around Mesquite driveways, and the last thing anyone wants in August is a fire started by a driveway repair.

What you can safely do is inspect. Photograph the crack with a ruler next to it so we can see scale. Note whether the gate sags with the operator in manual mode. Watch where the bracket flexes as the gate runs a full cycle. That record saves us time on site and helps us quote accurately. Then call us for the actual weld. We’re at (469) 916-7097, and a live person answers that line 24 hours a day. Under Clause 4 of the Haven Standard, every weld we make is photographed before and after, and the photos go home with you along with the written record of what was done.
